Responsible for determining the position of the first cylinder, together with the camshaft crankshaft sensor. The combination of the two signals determines the position of the first cylinder at top dead center.
LOCATION
There are a wide variety of locations, but they are always intended to directly read the camshaft or a part that rotates integrally with it.
TYPES
There are two types of sensors:
- Inductive/passive: the electric current generated by induction when it passes through the teeth in front the magnet which constitutes the inductive sensor, and which generates an alert signal.
- Hall effect /active: similar to the previous ones, but which are energized and alternate between different states as the teeth pass. Generally, it generates a square signal.
POSSIBLES FAULT SYMPTOMS
A defect in this type of sensor can cause:
- Motor fault
- Random engine stalls
- Lack of default accelerator responsiveness.
