It monitors the engine oil temperature and reports it to the vehicle control unit, ECU, and/or, it is indicated on the dashboard, depending on the model.
LOCATION
It may be integrated into the oil level sensor, into the oil pan or at some other point in the engine lubrication system.

- Failure of the contacts or internal variable resistance
